David Harrington Class of 1971
Dave Harrington was a three-sport athlete having competed in football, basketball and track for the Bulldogs. He was a four-year letterman in Track & Field, Captain, and received the Director’s Key for the ’71 team. During his senior year. Dave had an ECIC best high jump, of 62″, which qualified him for the state championships. After graduation, he broke the Junior Olympics WNY record in the high jump at 66 1/4″. He was a two-year starter in Football and Basketball and received the Director’s Key for Football in ’70, which was quite an accomplishment as he was a member of a 7-1 Championship team that included many other outstanding players. Dave played both ways on the foot-ball team, playing running back and defensive back. He was selected 1st team ECIC Division I-Defensive Back, in both his junior and senior year. Dave was the finest athlete in a class of top-notch achievers and thus received the Art Howe Award. Dave was a very good student, as well, and received acceptances letters the same day to both Duke and The Naval Academy! He went to Duke University on a full scholarship for football and track. He left Duke after sustaining a serious injury and returned to Hamburg. Dave eventually started a successful local plumbing & heating business.
