Don Cline

Class of 1944 – Don Cline was a big and strong high school athlete who was a 3 -sport star at Hamburg. Cline was a member of the 1944 football team, that shutout 5 of the 7 teams that the purple and white faced that season, and was also a forward on the 1944 Class A Section VI Championship Basketball team. However, perhaps Cline’s best sport at Hamburg was baseball, where he was an ace pitcher his senior year. Don went on to play both football and baseball at Colgate, and briefly pitched professionally in Canada in the PONY leagues. Don went on to a successful career at Arco refinery, before his untimely death at the age of 66.
