Jack Jones

Class of 1964 – Vann, Michie, Griffin, all former great quarterbacks at Hamburg, but Jack Jones surpassed them all by setting the Hamburg school record for passing yards in a single game of 266 yards -1 set in a season (1,504 yards) in 1963. Mr. Jones also set a state high school record by throwing 7 touchdowns in a single game, and was an honorable mention in the 1963 edition of the Scholastic Coach Magazine. Football was not the only sport that Mr. Jones set Hamburg school records, in a sectional qualifier basketball game that went into double OT vs. West Seneca, Jones scored 36 points to set the mark for most points in a single game. In addition to football and basketball, Mr. Jones was also captain of the Hamburg baseball team, and was named 2nd All-league in both1963 & 64. After graduating from Hamburg, Mr. Jones went to Syracuse U. and retired after teaching physical education at Liverpool High School for 32 years.
