Sports Legend

Katy Ryan, Class of 2005

Katy was part of winning Soccer, Basketball and Lacrosse teams at HHS, and won individual recognition in ECIC and Sectional Swim competition. Her list of accomplishments is impressive. She placed 2nd and 3rd in individual events at the ECIC swim championships and was a sectional qualifier in 2001 and 2002. In the Sectional 200 and 400 Free Relay races, her team had 3rd place finishes.  In soccer, Katy was named to the First Team ECIC in 2003 and 2004, and to the First Team All WNY and Second Team All NYS in 2004. One of her fondest memories of soccer is beating Frontier in the first round of the sectional playoffs and scoring the winning goal while beating Orchard Park in the second round. As a member of the HHS basketball team, Katy was proud to be a part of the 2005 Section VI Championship Team that was ranked 20th in New York State that year. Katy was named Honorable Mention All WNY that year.  It was in HHS Lacrosse that Katy found her greatest success. As co-captain her junior year, Katy helped lead the 2004 Girls Lacrosse Team to their first ever Section VI Championship. She set a school record that year with 75 goals. From 2002-2005, Katy was named to the First Team ECIC, the First Team All WNY in 2004 and 2005 and named a First Team All-American in 2005. She went on to play lacrosse at the University of Connecticut where she was a standout athlete. Since 2011, Katy has coached the Hamburg girl’s lacrosse team and led them to four consecutive Section VI Championships 2012-2015. She is the daughter of previous Sports Legend honoree, Wendy (Evans) Ryan.
