Track and Field
3-Time New York State Champion- 400m Hurdles. At the time of graduation, set the Section VI 400m Hurdles record: 52.69- 2009. At the time of graduation, held 6 Hamburg Track and Field indoor and outdoor records. Received the Gatorade Player of the Year award- 2008/2009. Two-year Team Captain for both Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field teams. Received an athletic scholarship to the University of Buffalo where he posted the 2nd best all-time performance in the 400m Hurdles in UB history.
2nd Team All- Western New York selection- Basketball- 1994. Two-time 1st Team All-ECIC-1 (1991, 1993) and 2nd Team All-ECIC selection- Soccer- 1992. Made a key save in goal in the shootout for the Lady Bulldogs to advance to the NYS semi-final soccer game- 1992. Two-year team captain of basketball team that finished the season with a 19-3 record- 1992 and 1993. To date, the only Hamburg Girl’s basketball player to ever play collegiately at the Division I Level. Went on to play basketball collegiately at Canisius College.
Soccer, Tennis, Swimming, Lacrosse
Named NSCAA/Adidas All-WNY, All-NYS, and All-Region Soccer- 2007. Tallied over 40+ goals and 80+ assists over 5 year Varsity Soccer career. Competed in NYS quarterfinals in Doubles Tennis as a sophomore, before switching to lacrosse playing on two Section VI winning teams in 2006 & 2007. Earned 14 Varsity Letters while at Hamburg competing in 4 sports. Went on to play Division I soccer at the collegiate level at Penn State then University of Buffalo, playing in +60 matches. While at UB named to Mid-American All-Conference Soccer Team- 2010.
Section VI- Most Valuable Gymnast (2004, 2005), All-Round Champion (2005). Currently holds Hamburg’s highest All-Around score in school history. Led Hamburg Gymnastics to two Section VI Team Championships (2005, 2006). Six-time gold medalist at Empire State Games. Three-time Junior Olympic National Qualifier (2005, 2006, 2007). Went on to compete at Penn State University Gymnastics becoming Captain in her Senior year.
William McClelland – Football, Basketball, Track
All-WNY receiver who scored 13 TD’s during the undefeated 1935 Football Season. Competed in the 220 yard dash and 440 year run for the Purple and White throughout high school and college career. Set the Section VI record in the 440-yard dash of 52.2 in 1936, which stood for many years. Played Forward on the second place Section VI 1936 Basketball Team. Received a four-year academic/athletic scholarship to attend Rutgers University, where as a freshman he played football and ran track for the Scarlet Knights. While at Rutgers competed in the intercollegiate 4-A track and field championships at Madison Square Garden, running for the Medley Relay team.
