Distinguished Alumni

Vivian Potter Galley, Class of 1951

Vivian Potter Galley was born and raised in Hamburg, New York and graduated from the Hamburg district. Active on the girls’ softball team, she participated in other activities such as skating, skiing, and horseback riding which she enjoyed throughout her life. Once graduated, she worked as a secretary for Bethlehem Steel. Vivian began working for the Hamburg School District in 1975 serving as lead secretary for Union-Pleasant School. She spent countless hours of her own time ensuring the needs of the school were met. “Viv’s Kids”, initiated by her husband after her passing in 2002, honors her commitment to help families in need. A memorial garden planted at the school is also a reminder of the impact she had in the lives of others.  Throughout her life she shared her faith by serving in a number of ministries in the Hamburg Methodist and Wesleyan Churches. She was devoted to her six children and eleven grandchildren and would often travel far to be in their lives.
