William Weiss, Class of 1974

Bill was a four year member of Hamburg’s Varsity Tennis Team and is considered to be one of the finest tennis players ever to play for Hamburg. As a sophomore he won the Sectional Doubles Championship. He won the Sectional Singles Championship as a part of his undefeated senior season. Bill also played Varsity Basketball and Volleyball for the purple and white. Bill was also an excellent student while at Hamburg. After graduating, he went on to the University of Rochester where he excelled on the Varsity Tennis team. During his junior year, Bill was named co-captain and captain as a senior. In 1976, he was the ECAC Division H and III fall champion in singles while not losing a set in the tournament. He also reached the quarterfinals of the NCCAA championship in doubles. Bill was the first tennis All-American from the University of Rochester. He was also inducted into The University of Rochester’s Sports Hall of Fame.
